Trump: Putin wants to meet, we have to wait, but end that war
US President-elect Donald Trump plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This step is allegedly aimed at ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible.
"One of the things I want to do, and quickly... President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. So we have to wait for this, but we have to end that war," Trump emphasized.
He noted that the ongoing war is terrible. However, according to Trump, this would not have happened if he had been president.
“This war is horrible. Nobody's ever seen anything like it. We see numbers that are just crazy. We have to stop it. It is ridiculous. This would never have happened if I was president. This war would have never happened,” he emphasized.
Trump and Putin's conversation
Last month, The Washington Post reported that after the US election, Donald Trump called Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The conversation allegedly took place on November 7.
According to sources, the Republican advised the Russian leader not to escalate the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Kremlin denies that Putin spoke with Trump after the election.
Trump himself also claims that he did not have a conversation with Putin. He said that he did not want anything to interfere with the negotiations on the war in Ukraine.
Putin has recently personally denied having a conversation with Trump. However, he said he was ready to meet.
