Trump proposes to share control of Gaza Strip with Middle Eastern countries
US President Donald Trump wants the US to purchase and control the Gaza Strip. However, he may give certain areas of the enclave to other Middle Eastern countries to assist with its reconstruction, reports The Times of Israel.
On board Air Force One, the US president stated that he would turn Gaza into a first-class place for future development.
According to Trump, he will soon meet with Saudi Arabian Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian Prime Minister Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The president expects that after speaking with him, both leaders will agree to accept refugees from the war-torn enclave.
"The US could look at allowing in Palestinian refugees on a case-by-case basis, and that he will take care of the Palestinians and ensure they are not killed," Trump said.
Trump's plan for the Gaza Strip
Since January 19, Israel and the Hamas group have been in a ceasefire, according to an agreement on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange. The parties plan to begin the second round of peace talks soon.
On February 4, Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of the US taking control of the Gaza Strip and deploying American troops there. The US president aims to rebuild the war-torn enclave and build several seaside resorts.
During the Gaza Strip's reconstruction period, Trump proposes that Palestinians temporarily relocate to Egypt and Jordan.
However, the Palestinian Authority and the Arab League do not support such a proposal. Ordinary Palestinians refuse to relocate, fearing that Israel and the US will not allow them to return to their homes in the enclave.
At the same time, Israeli authorities want Hamas to relinquish power in the Gaza Strip, and its leaders to leave the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promises to destroy Hamas and bring back all hostages held by the terrorists.
