US President Donald Trump has been presented with several expanded scenarios for strikes against Iran, including a ground invasion, according to The New York Times.
According to several US officials, in recent days the US president has been presented with an expanded list of potential military options against Iran, aimed at destroying the country's nuclear and missile facilities or eliminating Iran's supreme leader.
These options go beyond the proposals that Trump considered two weeks ago when he wanted to stop the killing of protesters by Iranian government security forces and affiliated militias.
The current set of options even includes the possibility for US troops to conduct ground raids on targets in Iran.
According to White House officials, Trump has not yet approved military action or chosen one of the options proposed by the Pentagon. The US President remains open to seeking a diplomatic solution, and some officials have acknowledged that the public threats were intended to prompt the Iranians to negotiate.
Backfround
Earlier, Trump said that Iran was allegedly seeking a new deal and threatened Tehran with large-scale attacks if it did not agree. Iran denied any desire for an agreement and said that its army was allegedly ready to respond immediately and decisively to any aggression on land, in the air, or at sea.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to visit Türkiye today, January 30, to try to prevent US strikes on Iran.
