US President Donald Trump believes that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has found common ground with both Russia and Ukraine, the American leader made the statement during a Peace Board meeting.

According to Trump, Witkoff is liked by Ukraine, Europe, and Russia alike.

As proof, the US president recalled how he first sent his special envoy to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"He goes to see President Putin. Didn't know Putin. I set him up a meeting to see. I said, 'How's Steve doing?' 'Sir, he's still inside.' Oh, that was an hour. I call back. 'Tell Steve to call me when he's finished. I want to find out what the h*** is going on.' We want to end that war. 'Sir, he's still inside.' Three hours, four hours. They were together for four hours, the first meeting," Trump said.

He added that Witkoff gets along not only with Putin but also with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Scandalous conversation between Witkoff and Ushakov

Last November, Bloomberg published transcripts of a conversation between US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Witkoff reportedly advised the Russian side on how to engage with the United States. In particular, he suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin call US President Donald Trump ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House and proposed drafting a 20-point plan modeled on the Gaza agreement.

Against this backdrop, rumors emerged that Trump’s initial 27-point peace plan may have been drafted by the Russians and later "refined" by Washington.
