Rumors have emerged online that US President Donald Trump may suspend tariffs for 90 days for all countries except China. This information turned out to be a fake, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt commented on this to CNBC.

Tariff rumors

A "statement" from Kevin Hassett, Chairman of the US National Economic Council, has appeared on social media, claiming that US President Donald Trump is considering suspending tariffs for 90 days for all countries except China.

However, Hassett never mentioned anything like that.

He said in an interview on Fox News that the president would decide what the president decides, adding that over 50 countries were negotiating with the president. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister of Israel was visiting them that day and that they had to contact Taiwan the previous night.

White House reaction

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has already commented on the fake news spread by CNBC.

"Fake news," she briefly stated.

Trump's tariffs

Recently, US President Donald Trump implemented additional tariffs on imports from several countries, including all European Union countries and China.

These tariffs have essentially caused a disaster on financial markets, and oil prices have also collapsed.

Beijing has already stated that, starting from April 10, it will impose a 34% tariff on imported US goods as a retaliatory measure.
