Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he expects a powerful package of sanctions against Russia from the United States. Ukrainian President has also called for convincing Donald Trump about the Kremlin's lies, Spiegel reports.

Zelenskyy emphasized the need to persuade US President Donald Trump that dictator Vladimir Putin is lying and to show that it is Russia that is stalling peace processes.

"That's why I'm doing what I'm doing - undoubtedly for Ukraine, but also so that other countries, not just the United States, can see that Putin doesn't want peace," Zelenskyy said.

Ukrainian President stressed that he expects a sanctions package from the US that, in his words, would be "strong and very dangerous for the Russians."

Zelenskyy also underscored the importance of building broader international pressure on the Kremlin to force it to end the war.

Sanctions against Russia

Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that he might sign a bill proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham on new sanctions against Russia. The decision will depend on whether the Kremlin takes steps toward peace in Ukraine.

Trump again blamed former President Joe Biden, claiming he was just sending money and had no idea what was happening.

Furthermore, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that a majority of senators support the bill imposing "bone-crushing" sanctions against Russia and buyers of its oil and gas unless President Putin begins serious peace negotiations on Ukraine. According to Graham, the bill has the support of 72 senators.
