Trump lashes out at Canada as tariffs take effect

The US president expressed outrage over trade and economic relations with Canada and called for an end to the current framework of cooperation.
Trump's grievances
According to the American leader, Ottawa wants to enjoy all the privileges of being a US state while refusing to take on the corresponding obligations.
He also criticized Canada's agricultural trade policies.
"Canada wants the benefits of being a state, without being one!!! They have also charged our great farmers, for many years, massive amounts of tariffs. No more!!!" Trump said.
US-Canada trade disputes
As previously reported, Washington and Ottawa found themselves on the brink of a new economic confrontation after lengthy trade talks between the United States and Canada ended without an agreement.
The two sides spent several days trying to reach a compromise on tariff policy, but failed to reach a joint decision. As a result, Washington imposed 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian goods.
As later emerged, the new restrictions affected a broad range of products, with even toys and diamonds subject to the 50% tariffs. In response, Canada said it was prepared to impose reciprocal measures on US goods.
