US President Donald Trump said he could remain in power for another 8 or 9 years, though he remarked in a joking manner, reports Fox News.
During a speech at the business summit at White House, Trump noted that he supposedly plans to use his own tax deductions when he leaves office in 8–9 years, which drew a reaction from the audience.
"When I get out of the office in, let's say, eight or nine years from now, I'll be able to use it. I'll be able to use it myself," he said, speaking about measures taken by his administration to support business.
In addition, he joked about his age, emphasizing that he does not consider himself older, and compared himself to former President Joe Biden.
"Now, of course, I'm not a senior. I'm far younger than a senior! It's true. I feel like I feel the same as I felt 50 years ago," he said.
Trump also ironically remarked that maybe someday he will say he feels bad, but added that it will be noticeable even without words.
"We should have, in my opinion, anybody running for president or vice president should take cognitive tests, and no president has ever taken one except me. I've taken 3 of them, and I've aced each one," he said.
Is Trump going for a third term?
Donald Trump is not for the first time publicly touching on the topic of a possible third presidential term. He has made such statements or hints before during speeches and interviews.
In particular, just weeks after the inauguration, at a meeting with Republicans in Congress, Trump jokingly addressed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, noting that he is not sure whether he will be able to participate in the next elections.
Also, in an interview with NBC News in February 2026, he did not rule out the possibility of running for a third presidential term, explaining this by his desire to "make America great again."
However, it should be noted that the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, adopted in 1951, directly limits the presidency to two terms, regardless of whether they are consecutive.
Trump's presidential term ends in 2029.
