The newly elected US President Donald Trump will not abandon his support for Ukraine, despite his previous statements, says French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in an interview with Le Parisien.

He believes that Trump is too wise to agree to what will be the largest territorial annexation in 75 years. The newly elected head of the White House will not forget that peace cannot be made "behind the backs of Ukrainians and over the heads of Europeans."

“(He is) too wise to forget that no just and lasting peace can be made behind the backs of Ukrainians and over the heads of Europeans. This would enshrine the right of the strongest, with very serious consequences in Europe and other regions of the world,” Barrot added.

As a reminder, France has responded to rumors that Donald Trump is cutting investments in NATO. According to French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, the Alliance's funding depends on the decision of the newly elected US president. He also believes that Europe must ensure its own security and this is normal. Lecornu emphasized that France has been adhering to this principle since 2017.
