US President Donald Trump will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, March 18. The American leader is taking a serious approach, according to a statement from White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields.

Fields was asked whether Putin could play "hardball" with Trump during today's talks.

According to Fields, Putin respects Trump because he "understands who he is dealing with." The US president and the Russian leader have "very good working relations, in which the two men respected each other."

The White House deputy press secretary added that Putin has "understood" he cannot "play the same games" with Trump as he did with George Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden.

"He (President Trump - ed.) gave the Ukrainians Javelins when President Obama gave them pillows and blankets. President Trump means business, and at the end of the day, he wants to score peace," Fields noted.

Trump-Putin talks

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to have a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, March 18.

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the key topic of discussion will be resolving Russia's war against Ukraine.

At the same time, Trump stated that he wants to save Ukrainian troops who are allegedly "encircled in the Kursk region." It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied such claims about an "encirclement."
