Trump hits EU and Mexico with 30% tariffs — and it starts soon

US President Donald Trump announced a 30% tariff on imports from the European Union and Mexico.
According to the US President, starting August 1, goods imported from the EU and Mexico into the United States will face a 30% tariff.
In particular, in a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, he wrote:
"Our relationship has been, unfortunately, far from reciprocal. Starting from August 1, 2025, we will charge the European Union a tariff of only 30% on EU products sent into the United States, separate from seasonal tariffs," the post said.

It is worth noting that the European Union had hoped to reach a trade agreement with the US.
Trump's tariffs
Yesterday, Bloomberg reported that the trade deal between the US and the EU is on the brink of collapse. The dispute centers on tariffs for agricultural products and automobiles. According to the outlet, negotiations have continued, but the outcome remains uncertain.
Earlier this week, Trump announced new tariffs on several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Brazil. He also announced a 50% tariff on copper.
Moreover, Trump's tariffs even affected Moldova, a country neighboring Ukraine. The US President said Washington will continue trade cooperation with Moldova but intends to reduce the "long-standing and persistent trade deficit."
"Starting on August 1, 2025, we will charge Moldova a tariff of only 25% on any and all Moldovan products sent into the United States, separate from all sectoral tariffs," his letter said.
