Trump finally endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israel's elections

Less than two weeks before Israel's elections, US President Donald Trump has openly backed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has long been waiting for such a move, CNN reports.
In a social media post, Trump called Netanyahu a "Great Warrior Prime Minister" and declared his "complete and total endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu."
At the same time, the US president suggested that the war with Iran could resume. According to him, this would happen if Tehran failed to change its behavior.
Netanyahu quickly responded to Trump's statement, thanking him for his "tremendous support and the joint work."
The American leader's backing came after a prolonged period of uncertainty and could not entirely conceal the tensions that have emerged in the relationship between the two politicians.
For many years, Israelis had seen billboards along the country's highways featuring Netanyahu alongside Trump, with the slogan "A different league" ahead of elections.
However, less than two weeks before the vote scheduled for October 27, billboards of the prime minister returned to the streets, this time without the US president. Trump still appears in some campaign videos for Netanyahu's Likud party, but his absence from the billboards may point to deeper problems in their relationship than a mere change in advertising strategy.
Until Sunday, Trump had refrained from publicly endorsing the Israeli prime minister. Earlier this month, in an interview with Time magazine, he said he was no longer getting involved in Israeli politics.
According to the White House chief, Netanyahu would like him to take part in the election campaign. Trump stressed that he had a "very good relationship" with the prime minister, but avoided endorsing his candidacy at the time.
Asked whether he trusted Netanyahu, the US president replied: "I don’t trust anybody in the world of politics."
It was recently reported that Trump and Netanyahu had disagreed over the war with Iran.
In addition, the US president said he had issued his ally a tough ultimatum.
