Trump explains why he won't impose tariffs on cars on April 1

US President Donald Trump explained to reporters why he would not impose tariffs on imported foreign cars on April 1. According to him, the reason is superstitions, according to CBS journalist Jennifer Jacobs' post on social media platform X.
Trump said that tariffs on cars would be introduced maybe around April 2.
"I would have done them on April 1. Believe it or not, I'm a little superstitious," the journalist quoted Trump as saying.
According to the US president, the introduction of tariffs was originally scheduled for April 1, but he proposed postponing it to April 2. He noted that this delay would cost a lot.
Earlier on Friday, February 14, Trump announced in the Oval Office his intention to impose tariffs on imported cars.
Trump's tariffs
Upon taking office, Trump closely focused on tariff policy. On February 13, he announced the introduction of so-called reciprocal tariffs, effectively raising US tariffs to the level of taxes imposed by other countries on imports.
He also imposed a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports without any exceptions or exclusions. The decision will take effect on March 12. Canada, Brazil, and Japan have already responded. The European Union announced it would retaliate with strict and corresponding measures following the decision to impose 25% tariffs on imports of aluminum and steel from Europe.
