The US rejected Ukraine’s request for a certain type of weapon because it did not believe Ukraine had the capability to use it, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with TIME.
The White House chief began claiming that Ukraine’s Defense Forces do not have aircraft or other equipment needed to launch certain types of US munitions.
"There is ammunition that President Zelensky wouldn't take, but it's very powerful ammunition. He wouldn't take because he didn't have airplanes and things that you need for that ammunition," Trump said.
He declined to explain to reporters which munitions he was referring to or why Kyiv had requested them if, as he claimed, it would not have been able to use them.
It is important to understand that over the past few days, the US president has made a number of controversial statements about Ukraine.
For example, Trump publicly called Kyiv "responsible" for rising diesel prices.
"You know, diesel is really hurt much more, not by the Middle East, but by what's going on in Russia, because those diesel refineries are being knocked out at a pretty alarming rate," the White House chief complained recently.
Moreover, Trump complained that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had refused to slow down strikes on Russian oil refineries.
He said that the big problem is that the refineries in Russia are being blown up and this isn't really a Middle Eastern problem. This is more of a Russia problem, and Ukraine is blowing up diesel refineries in Russia because they do a lot of the refining.
Incidentally, it was recently reported that Congress called on Trump to immediately impose "bone-crushing" sanctions on Russia.
We also reported why the Kremlin was outraged by the tough US demand regarding Ukraine.
