Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration is unhappy that the US is demanding that Russia first resolve the situation surrounding Ukraine and only then restore economic cooperation with Washington, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this, according to TASS.

"Unfortunately, the Americans still link this entire process, despite the obvious benefits, to resolving the situation in Ukraine. In other words, they say that a settlement must come first, and only then can the project be implemented. We believe they could avoid waiting. They could already be working for their own benefit," Putin’s representative complained.

He also began claiming that Ukraine has still failed to move closer to negotiations with Russia. Against this backdrop, Peskov once again falsely claimed that Europe continues to obstruct the resumption of negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

"So far, the cautious statements by some European politicians about the need for dialogue with Moscow have not affected the pan-European anti-Russian mainstream," the Kremlin spokesman complained.

Peskov went on to claim that instead of seeking ways to de-escalate tensions, Europe had "decided to develop its own security identity." Moreover, he added that EU countries are spending almost 5% of their budgets on creating European security mechanisms. According to Putin’s representative, this process is only gaining momentum.

Despite this, Peskov described the Bulgarian prime minister’s remarks about the importance of using every opportunity for dialogue with Russia as a positive development.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine explained why Putin’s team disliked the US proposal to ease sanctions against Russia.

Russian President unexpectedly began talking about "security guarantees" for Russia.
