Trump envoy meets Hamas leader to discuss Gaza — CNN

US envoy Jared Kushner met with Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt to revive efforts to implement President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip, CNN reports.
Negotiation details
As the outlet notes, the talks took place in the Egyptian city of El Alamein. Board of Peace Director Nickolay Mladenov also took part in the negotiations.
The main goal of the meeting was to unblock the US peace initiative after Israel rejected key elements of the proposed roadmap.
In addition to talks with Hamas representatives, Kushner met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The US envoy plans to then hold consultations with other regional leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Reaction from regional countries
Amid disagreements over the terms of a ceasefire and Gaza's postwar future, the foreign ministers of eight countries—Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt—issued a joint statement.
Diplomats condemned Israel's rejection of Trump's peace plan and warned that the decision threatens efforts to end the war.
Peace plan for Gaza Strip
In late July 2026, the Board of Peace for Gaza announced a historic agreement on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups.
At the time, US President Donald Trump called the agreement an "important milestone" in implementing the 20-point peace initiative developed following a US-, Qatari-, Turkish-, and Egyptian-mediated ceasefire.
However, in early August, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the US-proposed 15-point peace plan.
Tel Aviv issued an unequivocal demand for the complete and unconditional disarmament of Hamas, refusing to support key elements of the roadmap proposed by Washington.
