Trump announces deal to fully disarm Hamas in Gaza

The Gaza Peace Council has reached a historic agreement on the full disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in the sector, according to Sky News and US President Donald Trump's Truth Social.
What exactly Trump announced
Trump called the disarmament agreement an important milestone in implementing the 20-point plan announced last year following a ceasefire agreement reached in October with the mediation of the US, Qatar, Türkiye, and Egypt, and later approved by the UN.
"The agreement will be carried out in carefully structured phases," the president wrote on Truth Social.
What the plan envisages next
According to Trump, as the disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw from the sector, and the International Stabilization Forces will work with the new Palestinian police to take responsibility for Gaza's security for its residents and neighbors.
"Gaza will finally be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its people," he added.
Have the parties to the conflict responded?
As of the time of publication, neither Israel nor Hamas had yet commented on the American president's statement.
The idea of the complete disarmament of Hamas was discussed as early as spring. In May, Trump's Peace Council was preparing a 15-point plan for the group's disarmament, which Washington considered a necessary condition for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Prior to this, negotiations between Hamas and the Peace Council on a ceasefire had been threatened with collapse due to disputes over the group's disarmament and the transition to the second stage of the peace agreement.
Hamas demanded full implementation of the first stage of the agreements, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and guarantees for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, while Israel refused to change its position and stated its intention to maintain a military presence in strategic areas of the sector.
