On Friday, US President Donald Trump published a photo of the new $100 bill featuring his signature. This comes several months after the US Treasury announced similar plans, according to CNN and Trump's post on Truth Social.

Back in March, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the administration planned to place Trump's signature on US banknotes for the first time, ahead of the 250th anniversary of the UA.

On the night of July 4, Trump personally showed what the bill would look like. In the image, the US leader's signature appears above Bessent's.

The crux of the matter is that previously, the $100 bill only bore the signatures of the Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasurer of the US, but not the sitting president. So under Trump, this is happening for the first time.

In March, Bessent said: "The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved."

CNN has now contacted the Treasury Department to ask whether such bills are actually being printed.

At the same time, the matter could have gone even further. A number of members of Congress wanted to place Trump's portrait on a commemorative $250 bill. However, this was unlikely, as it would have required the support of Democratic senators.

According to US law, 'only the portrait of a deceased person may appear on US currency and securities.'

Earlier this year, employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prepared prototypes of a $250 bill featuring Trump's portrait and signature. In May, at a White House briefing, Bessent told Kaitlan Collins that, in his opinion, there is nothing wrong with placing Trump's portrait on American money.

“I don’t think that there’s anything untoward about having the President of the United States — that the person who was President of the United States on the 250th anniversary bill," the US Treasury Secretary said.

What else is important to know

CNN notes that Trump has made it his cherished dream to place his name and image on a wide variety of American documents and landmarks.

Just recently, the White House administration placed his photo and name on commemorative US passports, National Park passes, banners in front of various institutions in Washington, cultural institutions such as the US Institute of Peace, and special accounts for newborns.

In addition, Florida renamed a portion of the Palm Beach International Airport after him.
