US President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, stated that the President of Ukraine should not have allowed the war to happen. He placed part of the responsibility for the start of Russia's invasion on Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"He shouldn't have allowed this to happen either," Trump said.

At the same time, the American leader claimed that Zelenskyy is "no angel." Trump did not clarify what actions the Ukrainian president had taken, and he considered them mistakes.

According to Trump, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine could have been avoided by reaching a deal.

"Zelenskyy was fighting a much bigger entity — much bigger, much more powerful. He shouldn't have done that because we could have made a deal. I could have made that deal so easily, and Zelenskyy decided, "I want a fight," the 47th US president stated.

Trump also compared the number of tanks each country possesses, emphasizing that Russia has more.

As NBC News notes, a White House spokesperson did not respond to questions about how Trump thought Ukraine should have acted when Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.

Trump’s statements on Ukraine

Donald Trump’s inauguration took place on January 20. Since taking office, he has made a series of statements about Ukraine and the war.

Even before winning the election, Donald Trump claimed that he could allegedly end the war in one day. He also said that he wants to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.

On January 22, Trump posted a message on the social network Truth Social, addressing Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He urged for a "deal" to end the war as soon as possible and threatened Russia with tariffs and sanctions.

During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump promised to work on achieving a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. He also emphasized that he would like China to participate in the peace process.

In addition, the US president noted that he wants to meet with Putin to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
