US President Donald Trump, during a conversation with journalists at the White House, confirmed that he intends to impose tariffs on goods from EU countries. He complained that the EU has treated the US "terribly."

"Am I going to impose tariffs on the European Union? Do you want the truthful answer or should I give you a political answer? Absolutely, absolutely. The European Union has treated us so terribly," he said.

Trump complained that EU countries allegedly do not import cars or agricultural products from the US and "don't take almost anything."

"We have a tremendous deficit with the EU. So we'll be do something very substantial with the EU," said the US president, explaining that this would allow the US to correct the trade deficit situation.

Trump’s threats

Even before officially taking office, US President Donald Trump stated that he planned to impose tariffs on goods from EU countries, as well as Canada and Mexico. According to him, starting February 1, the US will introduce 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico.

Moreover, he threatened to impose 100% tariffs on BRICS countries if they decided to create their own currency to replace the US dollar.

BRICS include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.
