Trump compares Putin’s war against Ukraine to a kids' fight: 'Let them fight'

US President Donald Trump believes that Ukraine and Russia are like two children who should be allowed to tussle before being separated, Trump made this remark while speaking with journalists at the White House.
During the conversation, Trump suggested that it might be necessary to allow Ukraine and Russia "to argue a little" before reaching a peace agreement, and indicated he might be ready to impose new sanctions on both countries if he decides the conflict won’t end.
"Sometimes you see two young children fighting like crazy. They hate each other and are fighting in a park. And you try to pull them apart. They don’t want to be pulled. Sometimes it’s better off letting them fight for a while, and then you're pulling them apart," Trump said.
According to him, he used this analogy when speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their conversation yesterday.
"I said, ‘President, maybe you’re gonna have to keep fighting and suffering a lot, because both sides are suffering, before you pull them apart, before they're able to be pulled apart.’ But it’s a pretty known analogy. You’ve got two kids, they fight, fight, fight. Sometimes you let them fight for a little while,” the US president stated.
He believes there is "some bad blood" between Ukraine and Russia, and that he will need to deal with it.
Trump’s conversation with Putin
Trump held a phone conversation with Putin yesterday. Following the talks, Trump wrote that the Kremlin leader had very firmly warned he would "forced to respond" to Ukrainian drone attacks.
However, in his statement, the US leader did not condemn Putin’s threats.
Meanwhile, when the Russian army launched massive attacks on Ukrainian territory overnight on May 24, 25, and 15, Trump initially made no comment on the Russian strikes. Later, he stated that Putin had gone crazy.
