Trump comments on second apparent assassination attempt
Former US President Donald Trump has provided the first detailed account of an attempted attack on him that took place on Sunday. He expressed gratitude to the US Secret Service, law enforcement, and a witness whose actions helped apprehend the suspect, citing CNN.
Trump said that the incident occurred while he was playing golf with friends on a quiet Sunday morning. Suddenly, gunfire was heard.
"Secret Service knew immediately it was bullets, and they grabbed me," he said.
According to him, one of the Secret Service agents spotted the barrel of a gun in the bushes and fired at the suspect, preventing further threat. Trump particularly commended the witness who photographed the shooter's vehicle, which allowed the police to quickly locate and arrest him.
"The civilian did a phenomenal job. A woman. I mean, who would think, you could take a thousand times like that, how many people would have the brainpower to follow him and take pictures of the back of his truck so that they end up getting, and the key was the license," he said.
Trump praised all those involved in the operation.
"Secret Service did an excellent job, and they have the man behind bars, and hopefully he’s going to be there for a long time," he said.
