Incumbent US President Donald Trump has responded to the possibility of participating in the 2028 presidential election, according to Bloomberg.

After statements made by his former adviser and ally Steve Bannon about the possibility of a third term, this topic has been actively discussed in Washington.

One of the tactics allegedly being considered by Trump’s supporters to circumvent the constitutional ban on a third term is his running for the position of vice president.

Trump himself noted that, formally, he could be allowed to do so, but he has no intention of taking such a step.

"It's too cute," said the US president, commenting on the possibility of running in the 2028 election.

It is worth noting that the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution sets a limit stipulating that a president may serve no more than two terms.

Trump is currently serving his second term following his first presidency in 2017–2021.

What came before

Recently, Trump once again became the center of political debate regarding the possibility of a third term. Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon declared that Trump will be president again in 2028, which, according to him, would mark Trump’s third presidential term.

Bannon emphasized that people should come to terms with this prospect.

Trump’s former adviser said that there were many different alternatives and that their plan would be announced at the right time. He added that there was indeed a plan, noting that in 2016 they had fewer chances than in 2024 and even fewer than in 2028.

According to him, Trump will become president again because the country needs it.

As Politico writes, allies of the incumbent president have repeatedly voiced the idea of a potential third term despite constitutional restrictions.

At the same time, possible ways to bypass this rule are also being discussed — in particular, through abolishing the amendment or by running for vice president with a subsequent transition to the presidency.
