The US President posted a lengthy statement regarding last night's events in the Strait of Hormuz, when the US and Iran exchanged naval strikes. The parties accused each other of violating the ceasefire, according to the US leader's statement on Truth Social.

As is known, last night US forces attacked targets in the ports of Qeshm and Bandar Abbas. Iranian news agencies reported explosions.

In response, the Iranians attacked US military vessels east of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claimed significant damage to American ships, but the US Central Command denies this.

"U.S. forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes as U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman," the department reported.

US President Donald Trump himself called the attacks on Iranian ports just a light blow.

What preceded the escalation in the Strait of Hormuz

The other day, Trump stated that the war with Iran could be completely over within a week. He sees great chances for reaching an agreement with Tehran. However, he warned that the US is ready to continue bombing Iran.

According to media reports, the parties have already come close to signing a memorandum to end the conflict in the Middle East.

Tehran itself announced that passage through the Strait of Hormuz is now safe. This is explained by new procedures, but it is unclear exactly what they are.
