Trump announces Xi Jinping's US visit and reveals date

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States on September 24, 2026. US President Donald Trump has already identified one of the key issues he plans to discuss with the Chinese leader, Reuters reports.
US President Donald Trump on Thursday confirmed the date of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States. According to Trump, the meeting will be used to revisit discussions on artificial intelligence, a topic the two leaders previously addressed in Beijing.
"President Xi is coming over on September 24th, and we talked about it (artificial intelligence) when I was over in Beijing, and we'll be talking about it again," Trump said.
The visit will build on talks the two leaders held during Trump's trip to China earlier this year. It was during that visit to Beijing that the US president invited Xi Jinping to the White House.
Preparations for the September talks are already underway.
On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the need to identify areas of cooperation, aiming to lay the groundwork for what they described as a "very positive visit."
As previously reported, Trump visited China in May 2026 for the first time in nine years.
A large US business delegation accompanied him to Beijing, including executives from Tesla, Apple, Boeing, and Nvidia, among them Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and Jensen Huang. Artificial intelligence was one of the central topics of the summit.
The main issues discussed during the visit were the war involving Iran, China's purchases of Iranian oil, and trade relations between the two countries.
