US President Donald Trump plans to visit China as early as the beginning of next year, CBS News reports.

Trump said he still intends to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which will take place later this month in South Korea.

The American leader also noted that higher tariffs on China will take effect on November 1 if the US and Beijing fail to reach an agreement. However, he expressed optimism about the prospects of a deal, saying China is very "respectful" and paying the US "tremendous amounts of money" in tariffs.

Currently, tariffs on Chinese imports stand at 30%.

Trump-Xi Jinping meeting

Earlier, at the beginning of October, President Trump said he might meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

However, on October 10, the US President sharply criticized China, saying that Beijing is "sending letters to Countries throughout the world, that they want to impose export controls on each and every element of production having to do with rare earths."

Trump emphasized that such a move could create difficulties for almost every country.

He also stated there was no longer a need for his meeting with Xi Jinping.

Just a week later, Trump again praised the Chinese leader and said he was willing to meet with him in South Korea. According to Trump, everything will be fine with China, adding that he wants a fair deal.
