Trump announces sharp increase in tariffs on India within next 24 hours

US President Donald Trump stated that he may significantly increase tariffs on Indian imports within the next 24 hours.
Trump criticized India for excessive trade barriers and its economic cooperation with Russia.
According to the US President, India already has "the highest tariff of anybody," but that is not enough.
"They have the highest tariff of anybody ... We settled on 25%, but I think I'm going to raise that very substantially over the next 24 hours because they're buying Russian oil. They're fueling the war machine," Trump emphasized.
Trump’s tariffs
US President Donald Trump previously stated that he would significantly raise tariffs against India.
The American leader emphasized that Delhi does not care about how many Ukrainians have died due to Russian aggression.
The deals were made against the backdrop of new European Union sanctions targeting Russia’s energy trade. Trump had earlier threatened countries buying oil from Moscow with 100% secondary tariffs.
According to Reuters, at least two tankers carrying Russian oil bound for India were redirected following the recent package of US sanctions.
Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller accused India of financing the war in Ukraine by purchasing Russian oil. He stated that this is unacceptable.
