Trump allies question whether Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), should continue giving so many interviews, as his statements often contradict those of the president, according to NBC News.

The report notes that after his election, Donald Trump assured that his administration would not touch Social Security, except to make it more efficient. However, Musk recently made critical remarks about the program, which contradict Trump’s promises and have raised concerns among members of the Republican Party.

Four sources familiar with the matter told NBC News that these concerns have led some of Trump’s allies to question whether the billionaire should continue making frequent media appearances.

A White House representative told the outlet that they acknowledge the concerns of some Republicans who view Musk’s comments on Social Security as potentially problematic and unsettling for some seniors.

The Trump administration assured that Musk’s personal views on Social Security do not influence the president’s policy.

"At the end of the day, President Trump has full trust in Elon Musk’s decisions. The reality is everything that Elon is doing when it comes to Social Security is just to improve it," an American official said.

It’s worth noting that billionaire Elon Musk took over the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and initiated massive cuts to federal agencies, resulting in thousands of government employees being laid off.

These actions sparked mixed reactions, even among Donald Trump’s allies. Media reports surfaced about a conflict between Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, though the Trump administration denied these claims.

According to Politico, after the wave of layoffs, President Donald Trump decided to limit Musk’s powers.
