Members of US President Donald Trump’s national security team are expected to meet today, July 8, to discuss weapons deliveries to Ukraine, specifically the supply of Patriot air defense missiles, CNN reports.

According to an unnamed source quoted by CNN, Trump’s aides are planning to discuss military assistance to Ukraine after a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, July 4.

The source said that during the call, Zelenskyy asked for clarification regarding the pause in weapons deliveries, and Trump signaled that he remains willing to support Ukraine’s defense.

Another source told CNN that Trump also discussed the potential supply of Patriot systems to Ukraine in recent phone conversations with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron late last week. One option discussed was for European countries to either donate their own Patriot systems or partially cover the cost of providing them to Ukraine.

Talks on arms supplies are expected to continue between Ukrainian officials and Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, during the Ukraine Recovery Conference scheduled for July 10–11 in Rome.

Trump’s promise

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced new arms deliveries to Ukraine. This came after Washington temporarily paused military aid shipments.

The American leader stated that the priority would be supplying defensive weapons.
