On Friday evening, Pete Hegseth officially became the US Secretary of Defense. His appointment is expected to bring "major changes" to the Pentagon's arms procurement system, according to US Vice President J.D. Vance.

"I think Pete is a disrupter, and a lot of people don't like that disruption," he said.

As Vance explained, the United States hasn't "won a war" over the past 40 years, and the military department needs serious changes.

The US Vice President stated that Hegseth's top priority will be to "address issues in the Department of Defense," which, according to him, include increasing personnel recruitment and fixing the "incredibly broken" weapons procurement process.

"If you look at where we are with the rise of artificial intelligence, with the rise of drone technology and drone warfare, we have to really, top to bottom, change the way that we fund the procurement of weapons, the way that we arm our troops," Vance said.

It should be noted that Pete Hegseth's appointment as head of the Pentagon faced challenges. His nomination was confirmed only thanks to Vice President J.D. Vance, whose vote was decisive during the Senate confirmation.
