In the Smolensk region of Russia, a freight train and a heavy goods vehicle collided at a railway crossing. Eighteen fuel tankers derailed, according to the ASTRA Telegram channel.

The accident occurred at around 7:26 a.m. local time between the Rudnya and Golynki stations on the Moscow Railway. The driver of the truck drove onto the railroad crossing before the freight train approached.

The Russians claim that the train driver applied the emergency brakes, but the distance was not enough, and the collision could not be avoided. The locomotive crew was injured in the accident, and the driver and assistant driver were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

According to preliminary information, the accident caused the locomotive and 18 cars carrying gasoline to derail. A large fire broke out at the site. Train traffic in the area has been suspended.
