The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has made a decision to replace the Soviet coat of arms on the Motherland Monument. Instead of the USSR symbol, the Ukrainian trident will be displayed. Here are the details on its appearance and the production cost.

New coat of arms for the monument: visual representation

The trident will be crafted from two types of metal: 1.7mm thick stainless steel and 1.5mm thick steel of foreign production.

The main highlight of this project is that it will be created using a specially restored grade of steel. This same steel was used to construct the entire monument back in 1981.

Project's cost

Preliminary estimates by the Shimanovsky Ukrainian Institute of Steel Construction indicated a sum of 36 million hryvnias.

However, Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko later announced that the replacement cost had been successfully reduced to 28 million hryvnias.

The complexity of the work lies in the fact that the installation will need to be carried out at a height of 92 meters. This requires special equipment as well as favorable weather conditions, such as warmth and the absence of wind.

The Ministry also stated that the replacement of Soviet symbolism with the trident will be completed by August 24, 2023.

Although according to the employees of the Ukrainian Institute of Steel Construction, taking into account all the necessary work, the Motherland Monument will have a new coat of arms, the Ukrainian trident, only by Independence Day in 2024.
