Breakfast is the first meal of the day, which nutritionists advise not to skip. Leading gut health expert Chris Dubberley urges people to abandon the habit of consuming sweets in the morning, citing Wales Online.

Which foods to avoid for breakfast

The expert recommends forgetting about orange juice, sweet cereals, and pastries, as seemingly innocent choices can harm your gut health and overall well-being.

"Sugary breakfast items, such as orange juice, should be removed from our diets due to their surprising impact on gut health and overall well-being. The high sugar content in these drinks can lead to unstable blood sugar levels, disrupting the delicate balance of our digestive system," Chris said.

The notion that breakfast should be sweet, with pastries, cereals, or juices, is misleading and potentially harmful.

"These preferences have been cultivated by marketing campaigns rather than nutritional science. It's time to reframe our understanding of breakfast and prioritize options that support gut health," the nutritionist added.

Best breakfast

A non-sweet breakfast high in protein can be an excellent option for feeling full and ensuring optimal gut function. Adding high-protein foods to our morning meal provides lasting satiety and necessary nutrients for our body's health.

There is a misconception that sweet breakfasts provide energy. In reality, a spike in sugar levels followed by a drop can make us feel tired and sluggish.

To energize ourselves for the day, we should focus on balanced, nutritious options that promote gut health and stable energy levels.

"The shift towards savoury breakfast options is beneficial for gut health and overall health and well-being. By reducing our intake of sugary foods in the morning, we can support stable blood sugar levels, improve digestion, and lay the foundation for a healthier lifestyle," the expert concluded.
