Three powerful gas wells now operational in Ukraine
In November 2023, "Ukrainian gas production" commissioned three more high-rate wells, which provide more than 400 thousand cubic meters of gas per day. Two of them are new, the third one was restored from the liquidation fund, the company's press service reports.
According to the press service, the new exploration well was drilled at a newly discovered field. The drilling location was determined based on the 3D seismic surveys conducted earlier.
Another new appraisal and development well was drilled at an old field that has been in operation for more than 50 years. Experts performed an in-depth analysis of the development, assessed the residual potential of gas condensate deposits and determined the location for the new well. Both wells were drilled by "Ukrburgaz" branch.
The restored well had been in the liquidation fund for 35 years. The specialists carried out workovers and rehabilitated the well and prepared it for hydraulic fracturing. The external contractor successfully completed a two-stage hydraulic fracturing, which resulted in a high flow rate, the press service said.
In 2022, 18.5 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Ukraine, 4.3 billion of which were produced by private companies. Ukraine produces about 50 million cubic meters per day.
Earlier, the head of "Naftogaz", Oleksiy Chernyshov, said that this winter would be the first for Ukraine to get through the winter with domestically produced gas without imports.
Chernyshov said the plan is to "maintain the rate of 7% growth in gas production" per year. "Our goal for the next year is 14 billion cubic meters only at the expense of "Naftogaz," he said, noting the importance of increasing production from private companies.
