This is simply disgraceful: Zelenskyy reacts to events in Georgia and announces sanctions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the events in Georgia. Kyiv is already preparing appropriate sanctions decisions, according to the Telegram channel of the head of state.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the situation in Georgia concerns not only its people. According to him, the current government of the country is leading it toward obvious dependence on Russia.
"This is simply disgraceful, the things they are doing now against their own people. And when Moscow praises this government in Georgia, it clearly defines who they are working for in Tbilisi and for whom they are dispersing protests. Certainly not for Georgia," the president stressed.
He announced that he has already instructed to prepare the relevant sanctions decisions.
"We are preparing our legal response and working with Europeans and other partners on specific actions," the president emphasized.
Protests in Georgia
It should be reminded that on October 26, the pro-Russian party "Georgian Dream" won the parliamentary elections in Georgia.
President Salome Zurabishvili and the opposition did not recognize the election results due to numerous violations, declaring the parliament illegitimate and calling for protests.
The demonstrations, which were initially peaceful, escalated on November 28 after the new government decided to delay negotiations on EU membership until 2028.
Protests have spread across Tbilisi and other cities, with special forces in the capital using water cannons, tear gas, and conducting arrests every night. Large-scale protests have now been ongoing for the seventh day.
