These two products from supermarket lead to deadly disease
An oncologist-dietitian revealed two supermarket purchases that increase cancer risk, reports DailyMail.
Which supermarket products lead to cancer
Alcohol
Dietitian Nichole Andrews from the USA noted that people should avoid consuming alcohol and processed meat where possible, as it has been repeatedly proven to contribute to the development of cancer cells.
Nichole is a registered dietitian specializing in oncology nutrition and works with cancer patients to support their recovery and health through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes.
The expert said that one should avoid any alcohol consumption, even red wine, as its intake is associated with six different types of cancer.
"Alcohol consumption isn't just a buzz-kill for your liver health; it also heightens the risk of breast, mouth, throat, oesophageal, and colon cancers," she explained.
According to the Australian Cancer Council, there is compelling evidence that alcohol consumption, even in small amounts, increases the risk of cancer.
Cancer is not the only health risk posed by alcohol, as it also contributes to weight gain and obesity, as well as being associated with cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, alcohol dependence, stroke, suicide, injuries, and motor vehicle accidents.
Processed meat
Nichole also said processed meat, including bacon, ham, and pre-cooked sausages such as chorizo and hot dogs, should be avoided.
Red meat is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.
"The high heat involved in processing meats can produce carcinogenic compounds like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines, further upping the cancer risk," she said.
Red meat contains heme iron, which during metabolism can form harmful compounds that can damage the colon. There is compelling evidence that processed meat increases the risk of colon cancer.
Processed meat can contain high levels of fat and salt, so it should be limited or avoided altogether.
