The latest talks in Abu Dhabi showed progress but no breakthroughs. The most contentious issue - control over the entire Donetsk region - is still unresolved, an informed source said.

According to the source, the meeting started with a brief meeting with many participants, after which delegations worked in subgroups.

"However, there has been progress on procedural issues. The main topic discussed in the military track was the disengagement procedure - how it should technically be implemented. The discussions included defining timelines and procedures for ceasefire and halting hostilities, monitoring, and establishing a center to oversee this process," the source said.

They added that during the talks, the Russians did not raise any issues regarding reducing the size of the Ukrainian army or banning certain types of weapons. It was preliminarily agreed that the next meeting would take place soon with the same delegations.

At the same time, Ukrainian officials remain concerned that Moscow could use the recent incident involving Russian GRU General Vladimir Alekseyev as a pretext to delay or derail negotiations, or even to change its delegation for security reasons.

Abu Dhabi talks

The second round of trilateral peace talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia concluded in Abu Dhabi on February 5.

Following the meeting, the parties issued a readout describing the discussions as constructive.

Delegations focused on methods for implementing a ceasefire, monitoring the halt of hostilities, and agreed on another prisoner exchange.
