The US acknowledges that negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine are currently at an impasse, states US Vice President J.D. Vance, according to Sky News.

"We realise there's a bit of an impasse here (in the peace negotiations regarding Ukraine — ed.). And I think the president's going to say to president Putin: 'Look, are you serious? Are you real about this?'" Vance said.

Peace negotiations

Last week, Ukraine and Russia held direct talks for the first time in three years. The parties agreed on a large prisoner exchange on a 1000 for 1000 basis.

The countries also decided to present each other with their proposals for a ceasefire of at least 30 days, which Ukraine has already agreed to.

However, according to Axios, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official, the parties failed to make significant progress during the negotiations.

Today, US President Donald Trump will hold separate talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump will call Zelenskyy immediately after his talks with Putin.
