Technical glitch occurs in Instagram: Users report missing archives
Instagram experienced a technical glitch. As a result of the error, some users have permanently lost their archive data, CNN reports.
Some Instagram users received a shocking message. When opening the app, they saw a banner stating, “Due to a technical issue, this story is no longer available. While we’ve since fixed this issue, your story can’t be restored.”
Meta, which owns Instagram, declined to specify how many users were affected but said that only those whose stories were lost would see the message.
“We found and fixed a bug that caused some people’s Story highlights and archives to be deleted. Unfortunately, we are unable to restore these Stories and we’re letting people know in the app if they’re impacted,” said a Meta spokesperson.
The company explained that the black screen with the error message will disappear by July 2025.
This glitch serves as another reminder that relying on a single method of media backup can be risky. To preserve important memories, it’s wise to create backups of photos, videos, and other media outside of apps, regardless of how reliable the company is.
It’s worth noting that Meta recently announced the launch of a new tool called AI Studio, which will allow users to create AI versions of themselves for Instagram or websites.
