In Finland, the Panama-registered ship M/T Jazz, which was heading from Sudan to Russia, stopped near the Hanko Peninsula, according to Yle.

According to the agency, the ship had previously been drifting in the Gulf of Finland and then dropped anchor south of Hanko. The Finnish Coast Guard is currently in contact with the ship's crew.

It is worth noting that the M/T Jazz is not carrying oil, and the infrastructure on the seabed was not damaged. A tugboat and the patrol vessel Turva were sent to the area where M/T Jazz is located.

The Finnish Coast Guard also added that this incident is not related to the recent damage to the Estlink 2 cable.

Damage to cables in the Gulf of Finland

On December 25, underwater communication cables were damaged between Estonia and Finland. Two vessels were in the area of the incident, one of which is likely to belong to the Russian shadow fleet. Finnish President Alexander Stubb called for countering the risks posed by such vessels.

Yesterday, it became known that by stopping the Russian shadow tanker, Finland prevented several more serious sabotage incidents. The vessel could have continued to damage underwater communications.
