According to the media resource, during the trip, Fidan will emphasize Türkiye's commitment to a just and lasting peace in the full-scale war and will confirm the country's willingness to contribute as a mediator in a new round of negotiations.

Russia–Ukraine negotiations in Türkiye

On May 16, the first direct negotiations in several years between Kyiv and Moscow took place. Delegations from both countries met in Türkiye. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also arrived in the country with the intention of meeting with Putin, but the latter ignored the call for dialogue.

During the negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation was led by Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, while the Russian side was headed by Putin's Aide Vladimir Medinsky.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a large-scale prisoner exchange in the format of 1,000-for-1,000. The exchange took place over the weekend in three stages.
