Türkiye gets green light to purchase Eurofighter jets
Türkiye has received the green light from Germany to purchase Eurofighter jets. A technical delegation has now arrived in the country for further negotiations, states Euronews.
The newspaper noted that Germany, which had long impeded the sale of weapons and military equipment to Türkiye, has softened its attitude in recent days.
Thus, Türkiye has now begun negotiations on the purchase of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft. For this purpose, a technical delegation consisting of experts from England, Italy, Spain, and Germany, which are members of the Eurofighter consortium, arrived in the country.
The talks, which will last about three weeks, will cover many technical issues, including the stages of the procurement process for combat aircraft, how personnel will be trained, and how maintenance programs will be implemented.
If Germany approves the sale after the negotiations, Türkiye will purchase 24 Eurofighter jets in the first phase. This number will later be increased to 40.
The purchase of Eurofighter is considered the most appropriate solution until the KAAN, which is called the national combat aircraft, and F-16 Block 70 combat aircraft enter service.
Germany has recently approved significant arms supplies to Türkiye.
