Türkiye calls for peace talks with Ukraine's interests in mind
Türkiye wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible. That is why they propose to use peace talks with Ukraine's interests in mind, according to the Director General for International Security of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Basat Öztürk.
Öztürk noted that Türkiye “does not hesitate” to support Ukraine because it is “a neighbor, a historically brotherly, sisterly country.” At the same time, he emphasized that the support is not only due to the issue of Crimean Tatars.
“We consider the entire Ukrainian people to be our sisters and brothers as well, and that's why I really support them with all my heart,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry representative said.
According to him, Türkiye does not want to prolong the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, he emphasized that this does not mean that Ukraine should give up.
“No war lasts forever. In the context of concluding the peace of this war, there must also be, of course, respect for the legitimate and lawful interests of the Ukrainian people," Öztürk said.
Ukraine and Russia are not engaged in direct negotiations to end the war. Despite some media rumors that secret talks between Ukraine and Russia on a partial ceasefire have allegedly already taken place, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this was not true.
“To talk to the Russians, you need authority, and I have not given it to anyone,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
At the same time, Ukraine has prepared a victory plan to end the war. Read more about it in the RBC-Ukraine article.
