Despite the claims of Russian propaganda, sanctions against Russia are working. But they need to be made even more effective, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post on X (Twitter).

The minister specified the areas in which the effectiveness of sanctions needs to be strengthened.

“We must make them more effective. Strengthen enforcement, close loopholes, and keep increasing the pressure in many areas: shadow fleet, metallurgy, LNG-gas, frozen assets, atomic energy, military industry, IT, and others” the statement said.

In late December, the European Union began working on the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. This became known from the speech of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at the plenary session of the European Parliament on December 18.

According to Radio Liberty's Europe journalist Rikard Jozwiak, the finished draft document may be presented to EU member states this month - in January 2025.

On December 16, the European Union adopted the 15th package of sanctions against Russia for its war in Ukraine.
