EU adopts 15th package of sanctions against Russia: Details
Today, the foreign ministers of the European Union adopted the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions list includes companies from China, and North Korea, according to the European Council.
The new sanctions are aimed at Russian President Vladimir Putin's shadow fleet and are designed to weaken Russia's military-industrial complex.
“We will stand by the Ukrainian people on all fronts: humanitarian, economic, political, diplomatic and military. There can be no doubt that Ukraine will win.,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
Sanctions list
The sanctions list includes 54 individuals and 30 organizations from Russia, China, and the DPRK, including restrictions on the Russian shadow fleet.
Sanctions were also imposed against the Russian military involved in the attack on Okhmatdyt, the management of companies in the energy sector, and those responsible for deporting children, propaganda, and circumventing sanctions.
For the first time, full-fledged sanctions (travel ban, asset freeze, ban on providing economic resources - ed.) were imposed on various Chinese entities that supply drone components and microelectronic components to support Russia
The list of vessels subject to the ban on access to ports and the ban on the provision of maritime transport-related services has been expanded. The sanctions target tankers from non-EU countries that are part of Putin's shadow fleet. 52 vessels originating from third countries have now been sanctioned on these grounds, bringing the total number of vessels subject to sanctions to 79.
The list includes 32 new entities on the list of those who support Russia's military-industrial complex in its aggressive war against Ukraine. They will be subject to stricter export restrictions on dual-use goods and technologies, as well as goods and technologies that can contribute to the technological improvement of the Russian defense and security sector. It is noted that some of these enterprises are located in third countries - China, India, Iran, Serbia, Serbia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
Sanctions against Russia
The European Union has imposed extensive sanctions against Russia for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They include bans on imports of Russian oil and oil products, freezing of assets of key Russian companies, financial restrictions, and restrictions on exports of technology, equipment, and dual-use goods. The sanctions have affected thousands of individuals and companies involved in Russia's aggression against Ukraine, including officials, the military, propagandists, and oligarchs.
In addition to economic pressure, the EU has focused on reducing dependence on Russian energy by imposing oil price restrictions and strengthening sanctions enforcement. As part of its support for Ukraine and deterrence of Russian aggression, sanctions are constantly being tightened, and their effect is having a significant impact on the Russian economy, limiting access to global markets and technologies.
As Bloomberg recently reported, the EU plans to introduce the first package of sanctions against Russia for disinformation operations and other hybrid activities.
