Switzerland updates sanctions list against Russia

The Swiss government joined the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, introducing new restrictions on eight Russian media organizations, according to the Swiss Federal Government.
According to the announcement, the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (EAER) amended Annexes 8 and 25 of the Ordinance on Measures Connected with the Situation in Ukraine, dated December 17, 2025.
The updated regulations add eight organizations operating in the media space to Annex 25. The specific names of the media outlets targeted have not yet been disclosed.
Additionally, the listings of 158 individuals and entities under sanctions in Annex 8 have been updated. The new restrictive measures will take effect on April 23, 2025.
EU sanctions against Russia
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, numerous Western countries, including the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and others, have imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia. These sanctions include asset freezes targeting Russian oligarchs and officials, bans on the export of technology and high-tech goods, restrictions on energy imports from Russia, and measures limiting Russia’s access to international financial markets.
Sanctions have also targeted several Russian banks, significantly restricting their access to the SWIFT international banking system.
On February 24, the EU Council approved its 16th package of sanctions against Russia, focusing on the Kremlin’s shadow fleet and banks that circumvent restrictions.
