Switzerland to provide Ukraine with demining machines
Switzerland will provide Ukraine with 3 demining vehicles. The equipment will be manufactured in the canton of Schwyz by Global Clearance Solutions, according to Swiss Info.
Funding for the demining machines will come from the federal public budget. This company already has experience in cooperation with the UN and several non-governmental organizations, such as the Swiss Demining Foundation.
Switzerland expects to deploy about 100 of these machines in Ukraine by 2025. In total, Switzerland plans to allocate 100 million francs ($115 million) for demining in Ukraine by 2027.
Mine clearance in Ukraine
As a result of Russia's full-scale invasion, large areas of Ukraine have been mined, but government agencies continue to work to clear them.
Earlier, the European Union announced the launch of a new humanitarian program aimed at demining in Ukraine, allocating 2 million euros for this purpose.
In addition, Switzerland and Ukraine held a conference on mine action (UMAC2024) on October 17 and 18 in Lausanne.
