Sweden may consider sending troops to Ukraine, but under one condition - Minister of Defense
Sweden is considering sending troops to Ukraine if such a proposal arises at the NATO member states' level, states Pål Jonson, Minister of Defense of Sweden.
He reminded that the countries that gathered earlier this year at the summit in Paris did not have a unified position on the issue of sending troops to Ukraine.
"There’s no concrete proposal for it here and now. If it comes up, a concrete proposal, we can take it into review," the minister emphasized.
What preceded
The idea of sending Western troops to Ukraine began to be actively discussed after President of France Emmanuel Macron spoke about it. He has repeatedly emphasized that such a possibility should not be dismissed.
At the same time, the president clarified that sending troops would be possible in case of a renewed Russian advance on Kyiv or Odesa.
Yesterday, May 13, the advisor to the president on the national security of Estonia, Madis Roll, stated that the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine is being discussed within Estonia.
However, shortly thereafter, Estonian Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur noted that there had been no specific discussions on this issue within the government.
