Sweden became the first EU country to invest additional funds in the Ukraine Facility mechanism. We are talking about approximately UAH 3 billion, which Ukraine can receive by fulfilling the program indicators, according to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Stockholm's financial contribution to the Ukraine Facility mechanism became known following a meeting between the chair of the Budget Committee, Roksolana Pidlasa, and the Swedish ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Åberg.

As Pidlasa noted, in terms of Ukraine's budget deficit, Sweden's additional contribution of UAH 3 billion is not a large amount, but it can still cover some needs.

"This is a small amount, but it is comparable, for example, to the cost of purchasing school buses (UAH 2 billion planned for 2026) or the compensation program for destroyed housing (UAH 3 billion)," the Verkhovna Rada press service quoted the committee chair as saying.

According to her, it is very important that Sweden supports the provision of a reparations loan to Ukraine. This refers to direct budget support in the amount of up to €130 billion.

Ukraine Facility mechanism

Ukraine Facility is a European Union financial support program for Ukraine for 2024-2027. It aims to support macro-financial stability, economic recovery, and reform of key sectors.

It is expected that during this period, €50 billion from the EU will be allocated to finance the state budget, stimulate investment, and provide technical support for the implementation of the program.

On August 1, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved changes to the Ukraine Facility plan, according to which the country will receive financial assistance from the EU in line with the progress of reforms.

According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the EU planned €100 billion in its long-term budget for 2028-2034 to support Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility.

As for the reparations loan mentioned above by Pidlasa, this refers to the allocation of cash to Ukraine obtained from manipulations with frozen Russian assets.
