A citizen of India voluntarily surrendered to Ukrainian forces during the very first assault. The 22-year-old man joined Russia’s war against Ukraine to avoid imprisonment, according to the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade.

An Indian man named Majoti said he had been studying at a university in Russia. However, he was later sentenced to seven years in prison "for drugs."

After that, he was offered to sign a contract with the Russian army to avoid punishment. He was promised large monetary rewards, but never received anything.

According to Majoti, he wanted to escape. The Indian national claims that after 16 days of military training, he was sent to the front line, but just three days later, he quarreled with his commander and voluntarily surrendered to Ukrainian soldiers.

"I approached a Ukrainian dugout, put down my weapon, and said I didn’t want to fight. I didn’t kill anyone or do anything bad to anyone. I was only at the front for three days. I didn’t want to fight — I wanted to escape," the prisoner said.

Majoti also stated that he does not want to return to Russia and asked to be sent back to India.
